Artist FAQs
What is Artsandbuyers.com?
Artsandbuyers.com "rotates" art in locations
in secure spaces throughout the MidSouth.
What type of art do you place?
There is a place for every type, so we place
every type. When we receive new art, we promote it to
space holders through email. For example, Western art hung
in a Western apparel business.
What are the benefits to the participating artist?
The artist has the opportunity to earn
on his or her work beyond sales on a rotational basis and to
be exposed to an art buying public. Further, once the artist's work
is hung, the space holder gets brief artist bio, any provided image and
links for use in space holder newsletters, email and Web sites. Finally, if accepted,
we publish a sample of the artist's work in Art Channel, the html newsletter
that goes to all space holders and subscribers. (see images below)
Since we're talking images of your art...
Images of your art are important. Good images sell.
So here's our advice. Take your images as laterally
as possible to the camera lense by standing your art
fairly sraight up. Watch out for glare and flash
hot spots. Sometimes you can get flat diffuse light from
indirect sun filtered through a curtain. Shoot with a tripod
using a low ISO and long exposure time so grain
won't be in your image. Try to fill up
your shooting frame as much as possible. Then if you have the software,
edit out any surrounding
background leaving only the art or the outside frame of the
art showing. If you can't do that we will do it. Finally,
regarding sizes, We'd like to receive your pictures
relatively large--no smaller than 8" in width at 72dpi. Higher res
files are OK; we'll reduce them.
What kind of monthly income can I expect?
You can set your own rental price based on the
price of your work in the past.
Our program places your art in a recurring rental that conceivably can
be displayed repeatedly in many different locations.
But remember, this is rental, not sales. It's not
wise from a consumer standpoint
to set your monthly rental rate at, say, 25% of your sales price. We recommend
setting it low and see how your pieces get around.
We encourage raising prices to fair market value of well moving pieces but
if you don't get good responses, we have a variety of pricing strategies.
What is the cost to the participating artist?
None, except the cost of framing when you get
an order and transporting your art to the location,
which will be negligible if you do it yourself.
(see more on framing below)
Is there a limit to the number of works I can
enter into the system?
No, but they may not all be displayed in our newsletter
going to space holders. If your first piece is rented, we
put a second jpg of your's in our next newsletter to space holders,
thus keeping your work in constant promotion.
What about framing?
You do not have to keep your included pieces framed and ready to
move out as long as you can quickly have them prepared on notice.
Just have a place to go to get them professionally
framed. More: We use thin stainless steel cable, nylon or rods supported by
vertical high quality ceiling tracks. So your frames should have
backside hanging wire or gator hooks. You may
also use plexiglass enclosed panels, but
talk to us about that before going that route. We
never frame into walls.
What is your commission rate?
10% on all transactions at that physical venue.
This is a "contingency" fee, not an agent fee.
(See contract below.)
Is "renting" better than selling?
Well, a popular rented work can become a "golden egg"
because it can be rented several times until it reaches
and surpasses its sales price. Once a piece is sold,
its monetary value to you stops. We recommend keeping
your hot pieces in circulation.
What about the contract?
Highlights: The contract lets us show your work in our online and promotional media
and you assert the images you have sent to us are of your art, you
are the sole legal owner and you are releasing the images of your art that
you or your representatives have sent to us
publish in our newsletter and advertising as well as client newsletters.
A & B is obligated to pay your exhibit fee by PayPal when received
from the client, less our commission. Finally, you agree we represent your
work for a period of two years from the date of the last hanging of your
work to the space holder in which your art is hung.
Here is the full contract.
What do you mean by "show your work"?
You expressly allow us to include, "without remuneration
nor expectation thereof," images of your
art in our emails to space holders and to
show your art in advertising of ArtistsandBuyers.com
in any media to other artists and space holders.
What about delivery to display locations?
We prefer local artists never leave physical control
of their art until it is hung.
So we'd like you to be responsible for delivery your work to the
display location if possible, meet the people there and then help
hang your work on the preinstalled hanging system
mentioned above.
Should I keep pieces that have been exhibited and now are
out of the rental agreement period (removed)?
Yes, unless you want to sell it at a really good
price and are confident you can have others that
will work within our markets. Its always your call.
We make no availability requirements on your art.
We may continue to use the original image onsite until
you either send us a new image or we choose one from
those you've already sent us or you opt out of the system.
